Everybody starts their career as a stranger to the existing team. Some of the newcomers very quickly can dissolve themselves in the team, although they are rare. They immediately start enjoying the job, feeling – what a nice environment to work in, and become successful. However, many of the newcomers never get accepted as a team member to the insiders rather remains as an alien. Although the organization or team is not responsible but these people feel they are in a wrong place. In fact, the number of such kind of personality is very common, and because they don’t realize that this is not the problem of the organization or team but their own so they cannot improve the situation. Therefore they hardly find their matching environment unless try to tune themselves up to the reality. Such kind of people remains unsatisfied, demotivated, and most painfully unsuccessful in their professional life despite having high quality technical knowledge for a specific job. So the big question comes - how to become a team member? The answer is by trying to understand first that being a team member is an art, and knowing and exercising the art make a newcomer very popular to the team. Check the following tips to become a successful team member. Never forget that without becoming a team member you won’t be successful in your job – no way!

Be dependable
It is very important that your teammates get an impression about your honesty and integrity as soon as possible. Therefore always remember to behave consistently; fluctuation in your behaviour will suggest the team that you are not dependable, and you know it very well that all relationships build on trust. This is not applicable only for the human quality but also for the technical knowledge related to the job. Therefore do not try to sell yourself by showing false colour. If you do not know about something then do not pretend you are master of the subject. It is quite reasonable that one person does not have to know everything, so express it honestly if you do not know the right solution. Such kind of situation will create the image of a dependable character for you to the team members, so live with your true colour.

Be helpful
Always in a team or organization someone is in need for help, either technical or physical or mental. Try to offer your true-hearted helping hand if you ever come to reveal such a scenario without jeopardizing your own job or some other members. One such move will not make you hero overnight but surely slowly it will make room for you in other member’s heart.

Don’t expect quick return
There are many help-givers in a team who does offer help with the expectation of benefits but a selfless helping hand is rare. Whenever you are offering help to a team member, who is in need of, never do this with any expectation for anything; it is guaranteed that you will get something invaluable in return in future!

Create a sharing environment
Every people want to share their own story with others but they mostly cannot do it because there are hardly someone interested to listen. If you deeply think about the issue then you will surprisingly discover that you also want to share your story, and if you can feel someone is very close to you then you like to tell them your inner stories – closer feelings, more inner stories! However, it is wise not to tell bad stories about your workplace and any person.

Be courteous
General people like to make relationship with soft-minded good-mannered people. Nobody likes an arrogant, short tempered person. Therefore do not lose your temper in any situation – it will send alarm signal against you to the other people throughout the organizational chain. Remember that misbehaving with anyone will spread your bad impression to the whole team, and it will happen very quickly with tremendous negative impact on your accept ability. Never try to complain against other people. In case you have some unavoidable situation then handle it professionally. First, discuss the issue with the relevant person; if situation does not improve then bring the issue to the proper authority openly in front of the accused person with appropriate reasoning.
